The Tolpuddle Martyrs were a group of agricultural labourers who were tried and transported to Australia for the 'crime' of trying to form a union. Their story is key to the formation of modern trades unionism.

Donations to the museum support the work that we do and help us preserve the legacy of the Tolpuddle martyrs and bring this history to life. every donation, large or small, makes a real difference. We also have a special appeal for donations to help us acquire, preseve and display a set of previously unseen letters from 1834 written by Rev. Thomas Warren, Vicar of Tolpuddle who betrayed the Martyrs. These letters shed new light on his personal views and about the Martyrs and the trade union movement and we hope to display these at tolpuddle and make them available for research & study.
