POA Hke - Dorchester Prison to Tolpuddle
Saturday 15th July 2017
Prisons remain in crisis with inadequate staffing and resources to keep prisoners and staff safe.
For the last twenty years the prison population has increased year on year, it has risen from 43,000 in 1993 to over 86,000 in 2013. Despite this the number of uniformed officers employed to care for and protect those committed by the Courts has remained almost static. The Prison Officers Association has campaigned constantly to raise awareness of violence in prisons.
Prison Officers are banned from taking industrial action and they plan a Hike from Dorchester to Tolpuddle to make the case for the right to strike and highlight the dangerous conditions in our prisons.
Meet at the coach layby opposite museum at 10am.
Travel by coach to Dorchester Prison with a slow steedy walk back to Tolpuddle (takes approx 3-4 hours)
No need to make reserverations just turn up - all welcome.
